National Canoe Day Celebrated in Norway

We put in and paddled off into the protected waters of the fjord. Photo By James Raffan.

There was a small but very enthusiastic celebration of National Canoe Day led by Ingrid Skjoldvaer who lives in Sigerfjord in the Vesteralen region of Norway (above the Arctic Circle!). Ingrid is a member of a Norwegian Outdoors Club that has cabins all over the country. You join the club for about $15 a year and that entitles you to book these cabins (which are beautiful and in some intensely scenic locations around Norway). Ingrid invited CCM ED James Raffan and his wife Gail Simmons to go canoeing on an ocean fjord at Guvag, Norway.

No Rum for the Voyageurs!

The National Canoe Day celebration at Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park this past weekend was a hit. We arrived in style by voyageur canoe, had music all day by Fresh Water Trade, had cedar strip and birch bark canoe builders on hand, canoe racers, paddle making, paddle painting, me as MC and a bunch of enthusiastic paddlers who gathered on this historic waterway for a great event.. I camped out at the park for three days (I love Samuel de Champlain campground) and spent some time with some great people.
