The Paddle To The Sea Project

In association with the creation of National Canoe Day, The Canadian Canoe Museum commissioned twelve numbered paddles to keep the canoe-as-wonder activity going on year-round. The idea was to put paddles out into the hands of interested people who will help generate interesting content that will keep the National Canoe Day momentum going throughout the year. The paddles were given to a dozen groups or individuals on National Canoe Day, 2008, with instructions to do “3Ps”:

Paddle with it either close to home or on a trip or journey of some kind that can be documented—the trip need not necessarily be actually in a canoe as long as the story associated with it is compelling;

Post photos, video, and/or stories of the paddle in action to the National Canoe Day website ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it );

Pass the paddle on to someone they know who will get it closer to one of Canada’s three oceans and who will keep the 3P spirit of The Paddle to the Sea Project going.
